Hi again! The Georgia Reproductive Justice Access Network (GRJAN) provides practical support like transportation, lodging, clinic escort, etc. to folks with appointments at Feminist Women’s Health Center. Because our volunteer network is so small, right now we can only “officially” provide practical support to folks coming from the 10-county northeast GA health district, but we’ve pulled together resources to help folks from elsewhere, too. If there were some kind of submission based tumblr or other listing of volunteers in GA/the southeast who’d be willing to help with this kind of support, it’d be great to have access to it. That way, our fund could do a better job helping folks outside our service area. Or, if anyone wants to become a volunteer with us to provide practical support or help with our hotline, I’d love for them to contact me! Thanks for all you do!!

Ok, let me start off by saying this phenomenon pisses me off TO NO END. Because at the end of the day, it boils down to the fact the you have no right. YOU, as a girl or guy, have no right to judge any other human being for their actions when they do not concern or hurt you in ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM. Please tell me how the fact that that one girl who sits next you in Spanish class can’t keep her legs closed affects you. Please tell me how the fact that that one girl in your algebra class just changed her profile picture to a picture of her half naked affects you. If anything, I feel that the thought process that leads to slut shaming stems from jealousy and not a strong sense of moral right or wrong. Most people are more overcome by jealousy that said girl feels no qualms in being as sexually free as she wishes or changing her profile picture into one where she is half naked than they are personally offended by the fact that their morals have been severely violated by the actions of a stranger whom they don’t know nor whose actions have harmed them in any way. Either way, you have no right to push your morals on anyone because what makes morals so unique and fascinating is how DEEPLY PERSONAL they are. I really do feel that to be the reason why so much importance is given to morals in society and why we wish to enter into friendships or relationships with people of certain morals. IT IS BECAUSE MORALS ARE DEEPLY PERSONAL AND DEFINE A PERSON IN A WAY THAT MAKES THEM THEM. And whether this be a good thing or bad thing does not concern you. It concerns solely that person. If that girl or guy is happy the way he or she lives or carries himself or herself, THEN LEAVE HIM OR HER ALONE. LET THEM BE. LIVE AND LET LIVE. And also while we’re on the topic, just because a woman is fearless, indepedent, outgoing, and a go-getter, SHE IS NOT A SLUT. That is the most gross, horrendous, and disrespectful distortion of that word I can think of. This word, I feel, as no place to be used the way it is being used in society today. So come on people, surely if the only way you can have fun, or be entertained, or make yourself feel better is slut shaming, the a little self examination is in order. For slut shaming, above all, puts YOU down. In the words of one of my most favorite fictional characters, Atticus Finch, “…baby, it’s never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. It just shows you how poor that person is, it doesn’t hurt you.” So, please, with the economy as shaky as it is, nobody needs to be making themselves any poorer.
